Eighth MACPS Meeting/Second Field Trip

11 am - 5 pm on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Tannersville Bog

Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center, 8050 Running Valley Rd, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 â€‹

Our eighth meeting/second field trip was another success! We met at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center, where Sheila Garl gave an introduction to the bog and we held a plant auction. We then headed to the Tannersville Bog, where we were able to get a guided tour. The boardwalk led us through the bog, which was home to numerous Sarracenia purpurea and Drosera rotundifolia. The creek was also home to abundant Utricularia. Other highlights included tasting some of the delicious wild blueberries, finding salamanders under rocks, and spotting a beautiful scarlet tanager. Several members headed to Sheila's house afterwards, where they saw her huge outdoor tubs of water plants and carnivorous plants, and met her axolotls. Thank you to Sheila for organizing the field trip, hosting members at her house, and for providing a delicious barbecue dinner!
